Convergence Properties of a Class of Product Formulas for Weakly Singular Integral Equations

We examine the convergence of product quadrature formulas of interpolatory type, based on the zeros of certain generalized Jacobi polynomials, for the discretization of integrals of the type / K(x,y)f(x)dx, -l — 1, and f(x) has algebraic singularities of the form ( 1 ± x)a , a > -1 , we prove that the uniform rate of convergence of the rules is 0{m~ ~ "log m) in the case of the first kernel, and 0(m~ ~ "~ "logm) if v < 0, or 0(m~ ~ " \o%m) if t> > 0, for the second, where m is the number of points in the quadrature rule.

We develop and apply the product integration method to a large class of linear weakly singular Volterra systems. We show that under certain sufficient conditions this method converges. Numerical implementation of the method is illustrated by a benchmark problem originated from heat conduction.
